August 5 -8
Patrick Cantlay 25-1, Top 10 +215, Top 20 -125
Isn’t getting talked about enough this week. Best in field at courses with small greens. 4th on tour in strokes gained tee to green, 2nd in scrambling. Should be well rested and prepared. Course fits his strengths well.
Daniel Berger 20-1, Top 10 +180, Top 20 -150
Previous winner at TPC Southwind in 2016 and 2017. Second place finish here last year. 14th on tour in birdie average. In good form with top 20 finishes in seven out of last ten tournaments. Should be well prepared.
Harris English 45-1, Top 20 +130
Winner at TPC Southwind in 2013. Winner twice on tour this year, has gained strokes in all four categories in each of the last three measured events, playing best golf of his life. Top 20 on tour in birdie average, scrambling, and one-putt percentage. Should be a solid contender this week.
Matthew Fitzpatrick over Tyrell Hatton -130, -1.5 +110
Fitzpatrick has finished 4th and 6th here in the two years it’s been a WGC event. Hatton missed cut at home tournament (the Open) and looked to be disgruntled with his game. Hatton 69th and 43rd here the last two years. Hatton not a great player on small greens. Hitting fairways is important this week – Fitz 16th on tour in driving accuracy, Hatton 63rd. No cut event and Fitz is the more consistent player.
Abraham Ancer over Will Zalatoris -150, -1.5 -110
This will be the first time we see Will Zalatoris since his WD at the Open due to shooting pains down his back. On the other side, Abraham Ancer shot four rounds in the 60s at the Olympics on his way to a 14th place finish. Abraham is 7th on tour in driving accuracy and top 25 in scrambling and birdie average. Zalatoris has faded out since recently with his last 5 tournaments ending in 59, cut, 77, 26, and WD. I will gladly take the hot hand and more consistent player in Ancer over a young, struggling, and injured Zalatoris.
